Fundraising Concert for Diabetes Association to be held at Harmony House Theatre

Hunter River – A concert to raise funds for the PEI chapter of the Canadian Diabetes Association is set for Friday, December 21st at 7 p.m. at Harmony House Theatre. Headlining the show are Island musicians, Dennis Ellsworth and Ten Strings and a Goat Skin. Opening the show are singers, Meg MacArthur and Jenna Miller, with Mylene Petipas accompanying them on piano. All artists are donating their time and talent for the event.

Dennis Ellsworth has grown into one of Atlantic Canada’s most potent songwriters, with beautifully poetic lyrics and a veteran’s sense of melody, tune and arrangement.

The most recent release, Dusk Dreams, was recorded in Athens, Georgia, with acclaimed musician and producer, David Barbe (Drive By Truckers, Cracker, Bob Mould/Sugar). The album consists of ten songs that blend folk, pop, country, lounge, blues, soul, and whatever else. Barbe’s production is subtle, yet gorgeous and steers clear of interfering with the loosely wonderful performances. Critics are calling Dusk Dreams, Dennis Ellsworth’s most beautifully crafted release to date. The record garnered Dennis a position in the international category of the 2012 Mountain Stage New Song Contest.

Dennis Ellsworth has two previous solo recordings, 2010's Chesterfield Dweller of the Year, which Americana-UK.com called “heartfelt and heart-achingly beautiful, a timeless album”, and Strange Boat, an EP released in September 2011 and nominated for 4 MPEI awards.

With his side project, Haunted Hearts, Dennis has written and released two definitive records (Thank You, Goodnight and Howdy), collectively winning the group seven different awards with Music PEI and garnered an ECMA nomination in 2010 for Rising Star. Ten Strings And A Goat Skin are rooted in the traditional and celebrate the music of the Acadian, Francophone & Irish cultures. By integrating modern rhythms and interpretations to their music, this group creates an infectious energy and sound that speaks to all ages.

In 2011, they released their first bilingual album entitled Tri. This album has earned them the Roots Traditional Recording of the Year Award at the 2012 Music PEI Awards. This album was also nominated for the Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year Award at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards (ECMA).

The three members of the group are best friends Jesse Périard, Rowen Gallant and Caleb Gallant.

Tickets for the show are $20 and are available on-line at www.harmonyhousetheatre.com or by calling 964-2255 or 894-3005.
